Freshman pitcher Jeff Smith (1-3) capped off a strong week on the mound by earning the fourth win in Urban Knights' baseball history. The right-hander pitched effectively in three appearances (two starts) including the second complete game by an Academy of Art University hurler this season. On Mar. 30 versus Hawaii-Hilo, Smith notched the most innings he had thrown to that point (4.0) while allowing six earned runs and tying his season-high with three strikeouts. The next day against the Vulcans, he came on to pitch 2.0 innings, giving up one run and striking out one. Then, in the back-end of a doubleheader with St. Joseph's College, Smith had his best outing of 2010 with a complete 7.0 innings on the mound, three earned runs allowed, and three innings where he did not need more than nine pitches to retire the side.
