Breaking out for three incredible scoring performances in a 2-1 week for Academy of Art women's basketball, graduate student guard Tayler Bennett averaged 29.3 points (including 6.3 3-pointers made and shooting 54 percent from the field), 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.
The Interior Architecture & Design major opened by knocking down seven triples in a 25-point performance during the Urban Knights' 123-89 Pacific West Conference win over Dominican on
Dec. 31. She shot 9-of-15 from the field while adding three rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a game that saw ART U break its scoring record. Just two days later on
Jan. 2 versus No. 17 Azusa Pacific, Bennett etched her name in the record books with a 39-point eruption that saw her not only go 14-of-28 from the field, become the program's new single-game scoring record holder, and also 9-of-15 from long range to tie senior guard Josselyn Morris' 3-pointers made record from the matchup with Dominican. In addition to the scoring, the Long Beach native contributed four rebounds, three steals, and two assists all in 38 minutes of action. Playing a big part in Academy of Art's 96-93 overtime victory hosting Concordia on
Jan. 4, Bennett went for 24 points (10-of-18 from the field) with eight rebounds as well. The graduate student guard ended the three-game week with a +29 in the plus/minus category.
On the season, Bennett now ranks first in the PacWest both in three-point percentage (.436) and 3-pointers made per game (3.4) as well as second in scoring (18.0 points per game) and seventh in field goal percentage (.468).
