In just his second match in an Urban Knight uniform, freshman forward Grimur Grimsson made an incredible impact. The Seltjarnarnes, Iceland native scored the first goal of Academy of Art University's match at Menlo this past week (Sept. 9) and later broke a 2-2 tie in overtime, propelling the Knights to victory.
His first goal came in the 23rd minute when junior midfielder Richard Luna set Grimsson up for a chip shot over the Oaks goalkeeper to give ART U an early lead. After Menlo battled back to tie the match 2-2, Grimsson sent Academy of Art University fans home happy after bending a shot into the goal off a huge punt from junior goalkeeper Daniel Waller in the 98th minute.
“We really wanted to finish the game and the ball fell well for me so it was the best thing that could have happened,” Grimsson said. “This was an important game for us as it was our last before conference play. This team is coming together every day, we are aiming for the same goal, and the wins will come with that.”
Grimsson finished the match with four shots, including two on goal that were both converted into scores.
