AAU Chopped Down to Size by Lumberjacks

The Academy of Art University women's basketball team (1-10), in their loss to Humboldt State University (7-2)  Saturday Afternoon, was held to 10 of 59 shooting and was out rebounded 30-62, as the Lumberjacks cruised to a 90-38 victory.

HSU raced out to an early 13-0 lead at the game's onset and didn't let up. The drought was stopped at the 16:03 mark on a break away lay-up by KaUwila Lavea to bring the score to 13-2. The Knights were quickly stopped dead in their track once again as the HSU Jacks went on to score the next 13 points, until Sondra Stilwellknocked down two free-throws to give AAU a 5-33 deficit. The Urban Knights would score just 10 more points in the half as HSU went into the locker room with a 41-15 advantage.

AAU struck first in the second half causing a turnover and scoring the first bucket of the half. As quickly as the Urban Knights felt they could have a chance, Humboldt State knocked them back down to reality going on a 31-7 run and eliminating any chance of redemption by AAU. HSU made easy work of the Urban Knights and cruised to an 90-38 victory.

Five Jacks scored in double figures, led by Taylor Kilgore's 13 points. Katie Franci added 12 while Bree Halsey and Kayla Williams had 11 each. Kristina O'Keefe chipped in 10 points while Halsey also topped the team with 11 rebounds.

Stilwell scored 11 points to pace AAU, and Arika Navy added seven points off the bench. Levalasi Key led the Urban Knights with six rebounds.

The Urban Knights have the next week off, and will return to the floor Monday Dec 29th when they take on cross town opponents San Francisco State University at Kezar pavilion. Tip off is set for 7:00 PM
