AAU Defeats Simpson in Final Meeting

Box Score

Redding, CA--
The Academy of Art Women's Basketball team (4-15) was all business Saturday evening at the Heritage Center in Redding California as they defeated the Simpson University Red Hawks (3-14), 88-73. This was a big game for the Urban Knights who lost just one week prior to the Red Hawks on what the Urban Knights felt was a fluke. Coach Lindsey Yamasaki reflected on their first meeting between the two teams "I just don't understand how we lost that game. I don't get losing to a team that we were up by 16 on. It just showed me and the rest of the team that there are still things we needed to work on, and I think we did that last week. We came into this game feeling confident and knowing that we should win and that is exactly what we did." The Urban Knights established their dominance from the tip-off, jumping out to an early 20-9 lead within the first 10 minutes, and never looked back. AAU would maintain that lead through the remainder of the game. The Red Hawks who stayed intense till the end were able to get within 12 points in the second half but that was as close as they would get.

For AAU Caprice Hall lead all scorers with 25 points finishing 9-17 from the field and 5-10 from beyond the arc, Lorraine Etchell also finished with a career high 20 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Sondra Stilwell added 18 points four assists and two steals. On the glass freshman forward Vanessa Wilkins grabbed 10 boards and dished out three assists.

For the Red Hawks Liz Thomas led the Lady Red Hawks in scoring with 15 points, Alyssa Foster added 12 points, and freshman Chelsea Engstrom contributed 11 points.

Both the AAU men and women will travel to Hawaii at the end of the week where they will take on Chaminade University on Saturday, BYU - Hawaii on Monday and Hawaii - Hilo on Wednesday.
