Denver, Co-- The Academy of Art women's basketball team showed great resilience Saturday afternoon as they beat the host Metro State College Roadrunners, 85-76. Unlike in their game just 13 hours prior everything seemed to click for the Urban Knights, as they shot 53% from the field and 58% from behind the arc and managed to get to the line 28 times knocking down 21 of the 28.
Coach Lindsey Yamasaki was proud of her teams effort today, "We played for a full 40-minutes, and although we made mistakes, they were coachable mistakes. They were not like last night's where I felt the mistakes we made were uncoachable - like, for example, fundamentals, I can't teach how to box-out or make a lay-up mid game".
Levalasi Key made the first bucket of the game for the Urban Knights to put them up two to zero. The Roadrunners responded to tie and take their only lead of the game eight to seven at the 17:00 minute mark. A
KaUwila Lavea lay-up would spark an 18-7 Urban Knight run to put the Knights up by 12 with 10:00 minutes to go in the first half 27-15. Metro State would not give up as they dwindled the lead single digits, nine, with 5:00 minutes left in the half. But the run would be averted by the Knights who finished the half on a 17-7 run to but them up 48-29 heading into the locker room.
Sondra Stilwell led the Knights in the first half finishing with 11 points shooting 3-4 from the field 1-1 from 3-point territory and converted four of four free-throws.
The second half began with the Roadrunners scoring the first eight points. But a Lay-up by

The Urban Knights lead by as many as 22 points in the second half but give credit to Metro State as they never gave up, getting the lead to within eight once and to within nine three times. They managed to give AAU a scare late in the game by knocking down key three's and preventing the Urban Knights from scoring. AAU, however, maintained composure and walked away with their second win of the season. A win that Coach Yamasaki feels was a long time coming "We are always so close with a lot of teams, and tonight we worked hard and believed in ourselves and our vision and came out of it on top. We won today, and without a doubt we were the better team."
