Los Angeles, CA – The Urban Knights (0-5) were defeated in their contest against Division I Loyola Marymount (3-5) Wednesday, 91-72. In only the fifth game of his career, Academy of Art University freshman guard
Ivan Prema, Jr. had a breakthrough game as he led the team with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Prema shot 6 for 10 from the floor including a perfect 2 of 2 from behind the arc. He also contributed on the defensive end of the floor, grabbing a career high eight defensive rebounds. Premas' performance was especially impressive to head Coach Mark Sembrowich, “He did a great job guarding the best player in the gym. He asserted himself and the team got a lot of energy from him.”
While AAU recorded a season high 72 points, including 37 second half points, a 13 point halftime deficit was too much for the Urban Knights to overcome. " Our team really showed up and played hard and they played with great intensity," said Sembrowich. AAU showed their ability to distribute the ball as nine different athletes scored in the contest. The team dished out a season high 14 assists including six from junior guard Lance Olivier.
Urban Knights junior Forward Jonathan Burnett, second on the team averaging 6.5 points per game, recorded 14 points including 10 in the first half. Freshman forward Aaron Aikman also had an impressive performance notching 10 points, three rebounds and a steal for the Academy of Art University.
For the LMU Lions, leading scorer Drew Viney scored a team high 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Alex Osborne added 16 points as he shot an impressive 6-6 from the field.
The Academy of Art University's next contest will be their home opener when they take on Simpson University. The tip is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday December 12th in San Francisco, CA.
