Game Notes (includes season/career-highs)

ACADEMY OF ART PLAYS FIRST HOME CONTEST:

After five games away from San Francisco, Urban Knights men's basketball finally returns home to face Simpson University at UCSF this Saturday. This will be the AAU's only home contest out of its first 10 games.

OPENING TIP:
Academy of Art squares off against the Red Hawks this Saturday, Dec. 12 at UCSF – Bakar Fitness. Directions to the gym can be found on the AAU facilities page. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

SCOUTING THE RED HAWKS:
Simpson University, a NAIA school in the California Pacific Conference, finished with a 6-20 overall record last season and has faced some challenges this year as well. Currently 1-9 in their 2009-10 campaign, the Red Hawks fought through five losses before earning their first win: an 85-67 victory over West Coast Baptist on Nov. 13. Since that point, Simpson has taken four more losses and will be facing San Francisco State one day prior to its meeting with Academy of Art. Guard Jason Subbs has played in all 10 of Simpson's contests and paces the Red Hawks with 13 points per game. The only other player to be averaging double figures in scoring is guard Justin Sparks who puts up just over 12 points per game and went for 21 points in a 71-67 loss to Northwest Christian on Nov. 11.

URBAN KNIGHTS EDGED BY LIONS:
Competing against Loyola Marymount, the only Division I opponent on the schedule this season, AAU stayed with the Lions, but eventually lost 91-72 on Dec. 2. Though LMU took an early 10-4 lead in the contest, the Urban Knights fought back and kept the game relatively close. Academy of Art came within 10 points in the second half only to be hit with a 9-0 run and the game ended with the Lions on top. Freshman guard Ivan Prema, Jr. had his second consecutive breakout performance and scored a team-high 16 points to go with his nine rebounds.

LOOKING AHEAD:
After Saturday's game, the Urban Knights will be back on the road for their next four games, including two tournaments. First, AAU travels to Humboldt State for a pairing with the Jacks on Dec. 18 and then faces Chico State the following evening on Dec. 19 in a neutral site contest. Seattle Pacific hosts the second tourney which spans Dec. 29-30.
