Box Score

Orem, Utah (2/5/09) -- After allowing 17 second-chance points in the first half and a 20 point halftime deficit, the Urban Knights men's basketball team did not have enough offense to win against Utah Valley University and lost 81-43. Freshman point guard Marqus Crawford had a team-high 11 points and five rebounds.

The Knights and Wolverines began the game with a three-point shooting contest which resulted in an early 6-3 lead for UVU. From that point forth, the Wolverines went on a 10-1 run that finally ended when sophomore guard Phillip Samuel went to the line to start an 8-4 comeback by AAU. Utah Valley continued to make their long-range shots (they had 11 in the contest) and finished the period on a 15-4 surge.

The Wolverines had 18 points in the paint throughout the second half who began the final 20 minutes with a 10-3 burst. Academy of Art University was able to cut the lead to 23 on a few occasions before it ballooned back over 30 points and eventually ended at 38.

On the Urban Knights side of the ball, Crawford and sophomore point guard Weleh Dennis were the only two players to reach double figures in scoring (Dennis had 10 points). Behind the two point guards, Samuel and freshman forward Lorenzo Dobson each notched eight points apiece. Freshman forward Hunter Hayden was the only other AAU player to score in addition to pulling down a team-high eight rebounds.

A game-high 26 points (including six treys) came at the hands of guard Ryan Toolson who also dished out six assists. Guard Josh Olsen added 15 points and guard Tyler Petty achieved a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Urban Knights who travel to Bakersfield, California where they will take on the American Sports University Eagles in a rematch of two teams that previously met on Jan. 2 at Kezar Pavilion when AAU was victorious. Tipoff time for this meeting on Feb. 8 is still to be announced.
