GAME #8
ART U (2-5, 1-1 PWC) v. Cal State Monterey Bay (3-6, 0-3 CCAA)
December 15, 2012 at 3:00 PM PT
Seaside, CA -- Kelp Bed
The Knights stayed undefeated at home on the young season, winning their second straight game last Saturday against Holy Names. The Urban Knights finished the game with their largest margin of victory in program history in notching the 72-55 win behind 18 points and eight rebounds from
Akil Johnson and double-double from freshman
Bryan Fisher.
THE WAY TO MONTEREY BAY
The Otters, like the Knights, have not won away from home this year, and ART U will look to extend Cal State Monterey Bay's four-game losing streak with their first road win of the year. The Otters most recently took on Cal State East Bay, which resulted in an 82-85 loss. Their last win came way back on November 24, a 73-68 win over Dominican. CSUMB is led by Alex Fertig, a freshman guard from Fresno, CA, who is averaging 15.7 points per game on 51% shooting from the field. The last time these two teams played was back in 2010, with the Otters coming away with a win.
KEEPING IT FRESH
Fisher and Johnson are leading a strong crop of freshmen contributors for the Urban Knights. Joined by
Alex Carmon, the trio of first-year players have combined this year to average 31.2 points per game. Johnson (11.5 ppg), Carmon (11.4 ppg), and Fisher (8.3) rank third, fourth, and fifth on the team in scoring. Johnson also leads the team in rebounds, with 5.5 per contest, while Fisher is second on the team in total assists (26) and first on the team in total steals (13).
ON THE REBOUND
The Urban Knights will finish up the calendar year at home next week against Canadian foe Simon Fraser on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. The SFU Clan hosted the Knights last year and ART U escaped with a one-point victory, and now the Knights will welcome Simon Fraser in to Kezar Pavilion next week.
