TIPPING OFF
After averaging over 80 points per game over the first four games of the season, the Academy of Art University men's basketball team couldn't reach that mark against CCAA opponent UC San Diego on Saturday. The Urban Knights battled but fell short, falling 77-59 to the Tritons at RIMAC Arena, in their final game before the PacWest season gets started this week.
Alexis Moore had a double-double for the Knights in the loss, his second of the year.
SEA LIONS TAKE THREE STRAIGHT
Tuesday will be a matchup of high-octane offenses as the PLNU Sea Lions come in scoring at least 82 points in their last three games, all wins. It has been a balanced attack for Point Loma, as they have had seven different people lead or tie for the lead in scoring. There are four players averaging double figures, with Hayden Lescault (13.8), Marek Klassen (13.0), Judd Welfringer (13.0), and Junior Morgan (12.8) all over the 10-point mark. Morgan and AJ Ussery are also bringing down over five rebounds a game as well to lead the team.
AIKMAN AIMS HIGH IN FINAL YEAR
ART U forward
Aaron Aikman has thrived in head coach
Julius Barnes' offense over the past two years, and has seen his production shoot way up here in his final season. Aikman is playing 31.8 minutes per game and is making the most of it, averaging 14.4 points per contest, much better than his career average of 4.1 points per game heading into the year. He is also grabbing 4.4 rebounds per game and is shooting .660 from the field, both career highs.
LANCERS PUT STREAK ON THE LINE
California Baptist has put its best foot forward in the 2013-14 season, winning six in a row to start the year. They are another team averaging on the high end of the scoring spectrum, and have broken the 90-point line once, the 80-point mark four times, and have scored at least 70 points in all six games. Their biggest win came against Northwest Nazarene, a 20-point blowout, and the Lancers followed that up with an 11-point victory over Alaska Fairbanks. They're led by Ryan Berg, who has topped the scoring chart four of six times, and is averaging 13.7 points per contest.
IN TRANSITION
After starting the PacWest schedule, the Knights will host one more PacWest contest at home against Dominican University on December 14th before heading to Nevada for the Las Vegas Challenge on December 18-19.
