LEADING OFF
The Academy of Art University baseball team pulled off a split with Laney College co-tenants Holy Names this past weekend, splitting on both Friday and Sunday with their Bay Area rivals. Behind strong pitching once again, the Knights won convincingly in the opener with an 8-2 victory and then in dramatic fashion with a 1-0 walk off win in the series finale.

IT'S A WALK-OFF
The Urban Knights now have two walk-off wins in the past two weeks,  and this season have won three of the four extra inning games they have played in. With the 1-0 victory over Holy Names coming at the end of regulation and the 6-5 walk-off win coming in extras last week against Cal State Stanislaus, the Knights have had their fair share of excitement and also had different heroes. It was Ryan Ramirez driving in Lyle "Kalani" Brackenridge against the Warriors with a double against the Warriors, while Jeremy Williams knocked in Cody Edmunds (pinch-running for Chris Holmes) against the Hawks.

COUGARS DOING THE SPLITS
Azusa Pacific has split the last two series they have played, taking both nightcaps against Hawaii Pacific and doing the same against Grand Canyon over the past week. Last Monday they lost the opener to HPU 15-10 but came back to win 6-5 in the second contest, and repeated that feat on the second day, falling 9-3 and winning 8-7. Against Grand Canyon, they fell 8-4, won 6-5, lost 12-3, and won 3-0. They're led by a quartet of players hitting over .300, with Richie Brown (.338) ahead of the pack. Ryan Henley is batting .311 with five homers, while their rotation of Zachary Hedges (3-4, 5.01 ERA), Nate Namanny (3-4, 5.05 ERA), Jason Plowman (2-7, 5.92 ERA), and Joel Belk (3-0, 4.36 ERA) have combined for a majority of the starts.

SENIORS DAY IN THE SUN
Academy of Art will bid adieu to a senior class of three on Friday, as right-fielder Stefen Henderson, closer Ryan Donahoe, and utility-man Chris Holmes will play in their final games. Henderson has been here all four years and has the most doubles, triples, and home runs in program history. He is also the most patient Knight, drawing over 100 walks in his career, and has also stolen 36 bases in his career. Donahoe, the flame throwing righty who transferred from Moorpark CC, has three career saves and has racked up more than a strikeout per inning, totaling the fifth-most strikeouts in program history (56) in only 49.0 innings. Chris Holmes is the farthest recruit to come to Academy of Art, all the way from Woodbridge, VA. He has played catcher, first base, and designated hitter for the Urban Knights, and has also been here for four years.
