SAN FRANCISCO — It will take more than Monday's close defeat to derail the Academy of Art University men's basketball team's recent momentum, which will be on full strength Friday versus Notre Dame de Namur when the Urban Knights honor their two senior guards
Aaron Anderson and
Alexis Moore playing in the final home game of their careers.
Â
Friday night's game versus NDNU (4-19, 3-14 Pacific West Conference) is "Senior Knight" at Kezar Pavilion, where the Urban Knights (6-16, 4-12 PacWest) will play their final home game of the season and honor Anderson and Moore in a pregame ceremony.
Â
Anderson and Moore have combined to play in 147 games and score over 1,400 points during their careers at Academy of Art. This season Moore has led the Urban Knights in scoring the whole way while Anderson has been an important all-around contributor, showing his diversity by sitting in the middle of the pack in multiple categories including scoring, assists, steals and free-throw shooting.
Â
The Urban Knights had their streak of wins in close games snapped at three Monday in San Rafael with a 59-52 defeat at Dominican. They are 5-8 in games decided by 10 points or less – more than half their games played this season.
Â
ABOUT NOTRE DAME DE NAMURThe Argonauts (4-19, 3-14 PacWest) have lost six games in a row, their last win coming on Jan. 19 versus Hawaii-Hilo. ART U's first matchup against NDNU on Dec. 6 was one of the Urban Knights' 13 games this season decided by 10 points or less, as they came away with a 69-63 win in Belmont.
Â
Jalen Young is the third-ranked scorer in the PacWest, averaging 17.2 points per game. Counterpart Don Washington is the third-best rebounder in the PacWest at 7.9 rebounds per contest. NDNU sports the PacWest's lowest scoring offense at 63.4 ppg and the second-worst scoring margin in the conference at -10.6. Part of the Argonauts' scoring woes comes from their turnover troubles, where they are ranked second-to-last in the PacWest in turnover margin at -2.91 per game and last in assist/turnover ratio at 0.76.
Â
ALL-TIME SCORERSMoore and Anderson are right next to each other on the Academy of Art career scoring record list. Moore enters Friday fourth all-time with 796 points and Anderson is fifth with 681 points. Moore is currently the ART U career scoring average record holder with 16.9 ppg in 47 career games played.
Â
ALL-TIME STEALERSMoore and Anderson also stick close to each other on the ART U career steals record list, sitting No. 2 and 3, respectively. Moore's 85 career steals are only four off the career record of 89 set by Ivan Prema from 2009-13. Anderson's total of 79 is third all-time. Moore is also tied for the career steals average record with 1.8 per game.
Â
IRONMANAnderson is one of only three players in Academy of Art history to play in at least 100 games. He is also one of only three players to make at least 60 career starts, and his 2,235 total minutes played are third behind the same two other players he shares these distinctions with – Prema and Hunter Hayden.
Â
A LOT IN A SHORT TIMEMoore's career totals may not all match up with Anderson, as his time has been shorter (two years) than his classmate (four years), but what he has averaged in that short time period has been at record pace. Entering Friday, Moore owns ART U career average records in scoring (16.9 ppg), rebounding (6.4 rpg), steals (1.8 spg) and is second in assists (3.7 apg).
