Lancers Top Urban Knights 5-1

RIVERSIDE, CALIF. – Academy of Art men's soccer headed to California Baptist on Thursday, taking on the Lancers in their second-to-last matchup of the season. The Urban Knights were unable to contain CBU however, falling 5-1 in the contest.

The Lancers got off to a quick start in the first half, scoring their first goal in the 16th-minute. CBU would tack on two more in the period, once in the 36th and the other in the 43rd-minute. Freshman midfielder Isiah Quiros took the Knights' only shot of the period as they headed to the half trailing 3-0.

In the second half, the Lancers continued to attack the net. In the 50th-minute, CBU's Caley Powers recorded his second score of the game before a foul in the box set up a penalty kick for Luca Tschaidse who scored in the 60th. Just five minutes later, Academy of Art was able to crack the scoreboard as they were fouled on a drive into the opposing goalie box. Junior midfielder Dominic Payerchin was granted the penalty kick in the 65th-minute and his shot did not miss. The goal made it 5-1 and gave Payerchin his second score of the season. His last goal was recorded on October 19 at Fresno Pacific. The Oakley, Calif. native is now tied with three others for the team lead in goals and owns the second most points (four).

Overall, the Urban Knights' offense managed six shots (one on goal) while their defense had their hands full, facing 15 (nine on goal) from CBU. Freshman goalkeeper Jakob Primbas made his fourth appearance of the season and saved a pair of shots during his 45 minutes of work in the second half.

Academy of Art now heads to Irvine where they will take on Concordia in the 2016 season finale on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
