KNIGHTS OF KNOTE
Junior forward
Kendall Brown was named one of this week's Urban Knights of the week, following a career-high 22 points scored against Fresno Pacific on
December 1. After scoring 14 points in the first half, the Corona, Calif. native went on to shoot 71.4 percent beyond the 3-point line (5-for-7), and 66.6 percent overall (6-for-9). On Monday, Salas followed up Brown's career-night with one of his own. Amassing 30 points after a 21-point second half, Salas helped the Knights erase a 10-point deficit late in the period. The Yorba Linda, Calif. native has led ART U in scoring all season and is currently averaging 12.9 points per game. Forward
Luka Radovic is making some noise in his freshman season on the defensive end: the Cacak, Serbia native is third in the PacWest with 1.5 blocks per game. Sophomore guard
Cobe Williams has been a defensive force as well, averaging 1.4 steals per game (tied for ninth-most in the conference).
HAWKS UNABLE TO TAKE FLIGHT
At 1-8, 0-2 PacWest, Holy Names began the season 0-7 before picking up their first win against Cal State Monterey Bay. Since then, HNU has gone 0-2 to begin their conference schedule and will look to end their rut on Sunday against the Urban Knights. The Hawks play three more games before the break against Fresno State (exhibition), Azusa Pacific, and Point Loma. Jason Webster is one of two HNU players to start all nine contests and currently leads the team in several categories including average points (16.2), field goal percentage (.469), and 3-point field goal percentage (.481).
PREVIOUS GAME: SALAS DRAINS BYUH, CAREER-HIGH 30 POINTS
Dec. 6 - Amidst a raucous crowd, Academy of Art men's basketball's 2016-17 home opener did not disappoint. The Urban Knights (2-6, 1-1 PacWest) were the victors in a tight, back-and-forth contest against BYU-Hawaii (3-5, 1-1 PacWest) that featured a career-high 30 points from senior forward
Chris Salas.
The first half saw a strong ART U contingency right out of the gate. The Knights never trailed by more than seven points and shot nearly .500 from the field (.481). Strong defense was also at play as both sides were knotted at nine points each after six minutes had expired. Although the Seasiders led for the remainder of the half, Academy of Art never slipped out of striking range. In fact, the Urban Knights almost completely erased their 7-point deficit with five minutes remaining and ended the half trailing 35-34.
LOOKING AHEAD
Academy of Art heads to the winter intercession after Sunday's game against Holy Names. When they return, they will take on Dixie State at home on January 5 and Dominican on the road, January 7.
