Knights Topple Argos on Senior Day

SAN FRANCISCO – It was a thrilling sendoff for Academy of Art men's basketball's lone senior Nick Cary as the Urban Knights' 70-67 win over Notre Dame de Namur came down to the final 0.4 seconds of the contest.

Before tipoff, Cary was honored in front of friends, family, and the fans at SF State's gymnasium. For the Vallejo native, it would be his last game in an ART U uniform.

The game started as it ended: tightly contested. Neither team led by more than five in the period, as the Urban Knights would lead 35-32 at the half.

In the second, the Argonauts would take a five-point lead after going on a 9-0 run to make it 44-39 with 15:48 to play. NDNU would extend their lead to an eight-point 48-40 advantage, just to see ART U turn around and post a 10-2 run to tie the score at 50.

For the majority of the remaining ten minutes, the two teams traded a one-point lead which switched off almost every possession. The Urban Knights took a 68-67 lead into the final second and tacked on two free throws with 0.4 seconds remaining to secure the victory.

Four Knights finished the game with double-digit point totals: sophomore guard Jase Harrison totaled 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block, redshirt junior guard Sergio Valldeolmillos also posted 11 points, and added four rebounds, sophomore guard Uchenna Okeneme tallied 15 points, and junior guard Chris Salas scored 16 points with six rebounds.

Art U (6-20, 4-16 PacWest) finished the season in 12th-place in the conference.
