Knights Miss Buzzer-Beater, Fall to NDNU

SAN FRANCISCO – With the score tied and four seconds on the clock, Notre Dame de Namur's (4-12, 2-9 PacWest) Tre'shawn King-Dunbar drove into the paint and managed to put the Argonauts ahead with a well-timed reverse-layup. Academy of Art (4-12, 3-7 PacWest) flew down the court, giving junior guard Victor Nwaba a clean look at a 3-pointer from the right wing. However, the ball rattled in and out of the iron as the buzzer sounded, handing the Urban Knights a 54-52 defeat.

In the first half, neither side managed to put many points on the board as defense reigned supreme. In fact, ART U only scored four points throughout the first five and a half minutes and led NDNU 4-0 after five minutes had passed. The Urban Knights managed to hold the lead for the majority of the half, however, not relinquishing their advantage until the Argos took an 8-6 lead with 9:55 to play. After trailing by 10 points with one minute left, the Knights trimmed the deficit to seven thanks to a late triple from senior guard Herman Pratt IV.

NDNU scored the first four points of the second period, extending their lead to 11 points over ART U, but the Urban Knights made a steady comeback. Over the course of the next 15 minutes, Academy of Art continued to chip away at the lead and eventually came within one point of NDNU with 1:27 remaining. However, in the following possession, freshman forward Luka Radovic found Nwaba outside of the 3-point arc who's shot did not miss its mark. Now, with a 2-point lead and 1:05 on the clock, the Urban Knights looked to make a stop, but the Argonauts' King-Dunbar dealt the final blow just 32 seconds later.

As per usual, Academy of Art did well in distributing the point totals. On top were Radovic and freshman guard Dante Williams who came away with 12 points each. Williams managed four rebounds, while Radovic, totaled three rebounds, two blocks, and one assist. Close behind was Nwaba with nine points, three steals, and two rebounds and senior forward Chris Salas tallied eight points, three rebounds, and three steals.

The Urban Knights will close out their three-game homestand on Wednesday, January 25 when they play host to the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific at 7:30 p.m.
