Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Urban Knights Fall 5-0 to First-Place Lancers

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Trailing at the end of the first half, Academy of Art women's soccer was unable to overcome the deficit, falling to first-place California Baptist University 5-0.

Throughout the entirety of the first half, the Lancers dominated the possession, ultimately taking 12 shots in the opening period. In the first eight minutes however, junior goalkeeper Morgan Wirz did well in defending the Knights' goal, collecting four saves in that time. It wasn't until the 13th-minute when CBU finally managed to break through: Jordan Dow put the Lancers on the board first and scored once again in the 22nd-frame to make it 2-0. California Baptist University scored once more in the first half, taking a 3-0 lead in the 28th-minute which they held onto for the remaining 17 minutes.

In the second period, ART U managed to hold off their opposition for the first 20 minutes, but CBU scored two more times in the match: once in the 65th-minute and again in the 74th. In the half, the Urban Knights managed to take two shots (both on-goal). Nonetheless, each of their attempts were denied and Academy of Art fell 5-0.

With the loss, ART U falls to 1-13-1 overall and 1-9 in PacWest-play. Despite allowing five goals, Wirz's strong defensive-play prohibited the Lancers from creating an even larger advantage as she compiled seven saves overall. Freshman midfielder Sydney Cooke and senior midfielders Kendall Bozart and Abigail Chavez led Academy of Art's offense, each contributing one shot apiece.

The Urban Knights will now return home for a three-match homestand to close out the 2017 season. There, they will host: Biola, Point Loma, and Concordia.
