Knights Edged 1-0 by Late HPU Goal

WAIPIO, HAWAII – In their final match on the Hawaiian Islands, Academy of Art squared off with Hawaii Pacific in what would turn out to be a 90-minute, defensive-struggle. However, the Sharks managed to put one on the board late in the second half, taking the match 1-0.

Starting in just her second contest this season, junior goalkeeper Morgan Wirz shined in front of the net. In the first period alone, she managed to fend off 11 shots, collecting five saves, including four in the first 10 minutes. The Urban Knights took five attempts of their own (three on-goal), but both sides eventually headed to the locker room tied 0-0 at the half.

Academy of Art opened the second set of 45 minutes with a more assertive offensive-mentality, taking three shots in less than ten minutes. The Urban Knights continued to control a good portion of the possession-time, however HPU managed to sneak one past Wirz in the 67th-minute. The goal gave the Sharks a 1-0 advantage and a lead which they would not relent.

ART U finished the match with 10 shots overall and four on-goal. Senior midfielder Laney Haviland, senior midfielder Kendall Bozart, and freshman forward Alyssa Rasmussen each contributed two attempts while Wirz compiled a season-high nine saves. With the loss, the Urban Knights drop to 0-9-1 overall and 0-5 in the PacWest.

Academy of Art now returns home after their week-long trip to the Aloha State. They will host a pair of games against Dixie State and Concordia on October 12th and 14th respectively before heading back on the road.
