KNIGHT WATCH
With three games under their belt, Academy of Art ranks fourth in the Pacific West Conference in both steals (8.67 thefts per game) and scoring defense (opponents have scored 69.3 points per game). Redshirt senior
Pre'Franz Dominick comes into the week one game removed from her career performance against Cal State Monterey Bay on
Nov. 14. She exploded for 30 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocked shots to propel her into sixth in the PacWest in both rebounding (8.0 rpg) and blocks (1.3 bpg) as well as 18th in scoring (14.0 ppg). The team's scoring leader is still redshirt senior guard
Jazzlynn Brewster, a West Region Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team selection, who is averaging 15.7 points per game (12th in the PacWest) and 3.7 assists per game (11th in PacWest). Leading the conference and ranked 33rd in the country in steals per game (3.3 spg), senior forward
Helena Orts has 10 steals in her past two games to go with 14.3 points per game (16th in PacWest) and 7.0 rebounds per game (12th in PacWest) on the year.
SIMON SAYS
Picked to finish fifth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Coaches' Poll, Simon Fraser was third in the GNAC standings last year and reached the NCAA Sweet 16 where they ended up falling to California Baptist. Thus far in 2017, The Clan fell to UC San Diego and Hawaii Pacific, but defeated Cal State San Marcos and California Baptist twice. Three different SFU players have led the team in scoring through five games as four Clan members are averaging double figures in points led by Tayla Jackson's 15.4 ppg. Simon Fraser is perfect through four historical meetings with Academy of Art.
THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN
Bouncing back from losses to Cal State San Bernardino and Dixie State in Oregon, Saint Martin's defeated University of Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran in Washington to make them 2-2 on the year. The Saints will play their first home game of the year on Nov. 21, hosting Biola before they face ART U on Friday. Thus far, SMU is paced by Elin Johansson's 15.5 points per game on over 51 percent shooting from the field. The Saints and Knights are an even 2-2 in four previous meetings.
VISITING THE VIKINGS
The GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll had Western Washington slated for a sixth-place finish, one spot behind Simon Fraser, and the Vikings are 2-2 with wins over Fresno Pacific and Humboldt State as well as losses to UC San Diego and No. 17 Azusa Pacific. WWU will host Valdosta State on Nov. 24 before closing the Lynda Goodrich Classic against Academy of Art. Fourth in the GNAC in scoring (16.5 ppg), Hannah Stipanovich has led the Vikings offensively in every game thus far. ART U and WWU have met just once prior – a 70-50 victory for Western Washington in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
OTTERS TOP KNIGHTS DESPITE DOMINICK'S CAREER-HIGHS
In an extremely active 32 minutes, redshirt senior forward
Pre'Franz Dominick erupted for career-highs of 30 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks on the road on
Nov. 14. 20 of those points came in the final two quarters as Academy of Art University women's basketball tried to come back from a first-half deficit, but ended up falling to Cal State Monterey Bay 84-69 inside the Otter Sports Complex.
LOOKING AHEAD
The final day of November brings the first PacWest Conference matchup for ART U – a road contest at PacWest preseason co-favorite Azusa Pacific on Nov. 30. The Knights will then travel to Utah later that week to take on Dixie State on Dec. 2.
