Trio Shines At MINES Joe Davies Classic

2017 MINES Joe Davies Classic

GOLDEN, Colo. – Capitalizing on another opportunity to earn NCAA Division II Nationals qualifying marks, Academy of Art University track & field sent three women to compete in a variety of events at the MINES Joe Davis Classic hosted by Colorado School of Mines on Friday and Saturday. Marion Presigny, Hannah Hensley, and Folke Woch each excelled throughout, setting new program records and bettering their NCAA provisionals.

"The ladies performed well this weekend," said head coach Kevin LaSure. "They went out and accomplished most of what we set out to do and have set themselves up pretty well going into the NCAA Championships. I'm proud of the way they competed and took care of business!"

Friday's action saw the trio all compete in the pentathlon and Hensley in the long jump as well. Presigny, who finished as the overall winner, opened with a personal record of 8.70 (converted to 8.72 for track size) in the 60m hurdles. It put her 28th in the country. She added another NCAA provisional in the long jump, soaring to a 19-0 (5.79m), second in program history, and 20th in all of NCAA DII.

Also in the pentathlon, Hensley broke out for not only her best high jump as an Urban Knight and the program record, but also one that would rocket her to second in the nation. She would elevate to 5-9.25 (1.76m).

Henlsey saved her strongest long jump for the individual event outside of the pentathlon. There, she opened with an 18-10.75 (5.76m) and ended up fourth of 22 jumpers. The distance tied her for 22nd in the country among NCAA DII competitors.

On Saturday, Woch bettered her distance from the pentathlon the day prior by more than two feet. She achieved her farthest mark in the shot put to date, starting with a 38-9.25 (11.81m) throw for what would become the new ART U record.

Also Saturday, all three Urban Knights qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles where Presigny won the event, going 8.91 across the finish line.

Both the men's and women's teams will have one more day to qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Championships at the Boston University Last Chance Meet taking place Feb. 26.
