AZUSA, Calif. -- ART U women's soccer quest to break the single season win record was put on hold by Azusa Pacific who downed the Urban Knights 3-1 at the Cougar Soccer Complex. Junior midfielder
Anissa Wilson collected the lone goal for the Urban Knights, her sixth of the season, to place her one goal back from the single season goals record set in 2011.
The Cougars scored just 48 seconds after the first whistle on Randi Macadangdang's first goal of the season, but ART U settled in defensively and held APU scoreless the remainder of the half.
APU added two goals within the first 11 minutes of the second half. The first from Kellie Yoshihara and the second off the foot of Emmy Koflanovich to bolster their lead to 3-0.
Academy of Art got on the board in the 74th minute, when senior midfielder
Alice Michell crossed a corner that Wilson headed into the back of the net to extend her team lead in goals. Wilson increased her points total to 14 while Michell ascended to eight, first and second in points respectively for ART U.
The shutout bursting goal would be the final of the match producing a final score of 3-1 in favor of the Cougars.
After the loss, Academy of Art's record stands at 7-7-0 overall and 1-6-0 in conference. The Urban Knights will have another shot at the program wins record Monday Oct. 22 against Concordia.
