Milivojevic Scores Career High in Overtime Loss

SAN FRANCSICO -- Despite sophomore guard Stefan Milivojevic dropping a career high 20 points and redshirt junior forward Victor Ruiz de Carranza achieving his first double-double, Academy of Art closed out the SF State Tip-off Classic on a tough overtime loss to Sonoma State 68-66.

ART U got off to a quick start, scoring six points on a layup from senior guard Cobe Williams and a pair of layups from Carranza, before SSU got on the board with a three. ART U took the lead and held it for the first eight minutes of the game until the Seawolves briefly pulled ahead 12-11. The Knights came right back on a layup by Milivojevic, who ended the half with 15 points, to take the lead. ART U kept the lead the remainder of the first and went into the half up 33-25.

The Urban Knights did not surrender the lead in the second half, and led by as many as 12, but a late 7-0 run by the Seawolves including a clutch jumper by Isaac Davidson with four seconds left forced the game into overtime.

SSU struck first in overtime and went out to a 66-60 lead, but a trio of senior Knights: Cobe Williams, forward Cole Morgan, and guard Zuri Williams put ART U back in the game by delivering six points to narrow the lead 68-66 with 17 seconds. The Seawolves attempted to put the game out of reach, but a missed layup gave Academy of Art possession and an opportunity at victory. Zuri Williams hurried down the court straight through the lane and missed a layup. Morgan fought for a rebound and put up another attempt, but it was no good. A scuffle for the ball ensued, but by the time it was settled the clock read zero and the score was finalized 68-66.

Carranza ended the game with 12 points and 12 rebounds for his first double-double as a Knight. Senior center Cameron Niven was solid defensively, collecting a season high four blocks.

Academy of Art moves to 0-2 on the loss. After their first weekend of games, ART U will look ahead to the 2018 Dixie State Thanksgiving Classic, staring Nov. 23 when they take on host Dixie State. The Urban Knights close out the Thanksgiving Classic the following day with Westminster College before heading into PacWest conference play.
