URBAN KNIGHTS CONTINUE HOMESTAND WITH HAWAII TEAMS, BIOLA

Back inside Kezar Pavilion after a break from competition over the holiday, Academy of Art women's basketball resumes its homestand with Hawaii Pacific, Chaminade, UH Hilo, and Biola coming to San Francisco over the next week.

OPENING TIP
ART U closes out the 2018 calendar year by hosting HPU on Monday, Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. The New Year then begins with Chaminade in town for a 5 p.m tipoff on Wednesday, Jan. 2 followed by UH Hilo on Friday, Jan. 4 also at 5 p.m. All contests will be played inside Kezar Pavilion. The week finishes with a Monday, Jan. 7 matchup with Biola at 5 p.m. relocated to Holy Names' Tobin Gym in Oakland due to unplayable conditions caused by inclement weather. Live coverage will be available via the links above. Remember to follow @ARTU_Knights via the athletics app (Apple App StoreGoogle Play Store) and on Twitter & Instagram as well as "Like" the Urban Knights on Facebook for score updates, videos, and recaps.

19139KNIGHT WATCH
Academy of Art comes into the week ranked third in the PacWest in rebounds per game (42.0) thanks to a trio among the PacWest's top 13. At fifth in the conference, junior forward Ines Medina's 9.0 rebounds per contest combine with 10.9 points per game. Sophomore forward Megan Jefferson has had no fewer than five rebounds in any of the team's seven games and sits ninth in the PacWest with 8.6 boards per game. After making her return last game, freshman guard Chanel Stuart comes in putting up 7.5 rebounds per contest (13th in the conference) while also leading the PacWest with 3.3 steals (top 20 in the country) and adding 13.2 points per game. Junior guard Brianna Cates remains the team's leading scorer, putting in 17.5 points per contest to rank fourth in the PacWest, and sophomore forward Lily Perkins (11.4 ppg) comes off a career night in which she scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds, tallied five steals, and blocked two shots.

SHARK ATTACK
Along with Azusa Pacific, Hawaii Pacific is the only other PacWest team currently undefeated in conference play thus far. The Sharks lost all four of their first four contests against West Region opponents, but have since rattled off five straight wins including four over PacWest teams. HPU ranks first in the conference in free throw percentage (74 percent), opponent rebounding (37.3 boards per game), and three-point defense (holding opponents to under 25 percent). The Sharks are led offensively by Samantha Lambrigsten's 15.2 points per game which come with the PacWest's highest field goal percentage (52 percent) and third-highest free throw percentage (81.5 percent). Amy Baum currently leads the conference in assists per game (5.2) as well. With victories in the teams' previous three meetings, Hawaii Pacific is 11-5 all-time against Academy of Art.

SILVER AGE
Yet to play a true "away" contest, Chaminade has gone 2-6 on the Hawaiian Islands with one PacWest victory, a seven-point win over UH Hilo, thus far. ART U will be the Silverswords' second stop on a Bay Area roadtrip that begins with Fresno Pacific on Dec. 31. Middle of the pack in numerous statistical categories, Chaminade ranks second in three-point field goal percentage (31.8 percent) and second-leading scorer Hunter Liftee's 39.1 clip is a big contributor. Destiny Castro paces the squad with 17.4 points (fifth in PacWest) and 7.6 rebounds per game. The Urban Knights are a perfect 16-0 historically versus the Silverswords.

UH, HILO?
Sporting the same conference record as Chaminade, the 1-3 Vulcans have also not yet departed Hawaii this season. UH Hilo's notable wins came against Holy Names and Saint Martin's and they will face Academy of Art after Dominican (Dec. 31) and Fresno Pacific (Jan. 2) on this mainland roadtrip.  Historically a defensive-minded team, the Vulcans are holding opponents to just under 64 points per game (third in the PacWest). One of the top bigs in the conference, Allie Navarette comes in averaging 19.9 points (second in PacWest) and 10.0 rebounds (PacWest leader) per game. Through 12 historical meetings, ART U and UH Hilo are an even 6-6 against one another.

THE BIOLA BIO
In an up-and-down year to date, Biola dropped three games to start, won four of its next five including two to open PacWest play, then fell in two of three with a one-point win at Concordia coming in overtime. After the Eagles play their sixth home game with Point Loma in town on Jan. 2, BU makes its way to the Bay Area for a pairing with Notre Dame de Namur (Jan. 5) before meeting Academy of Art. Biola leads the PacWest in opposing field goal percentage (34 percent) while offering the second-highest shooting percentage from the field (43.4 percent), from distance (34.1 percent), and the most triples made per game (8.2). With no players among the conference's top 20 scorers, Jazz Benn is the team's leader at 11.9 points per contest. This will be just the second time Academy of Art and Biola have ever met with the Eagles holding a 1-0 all-time record.

ART U FALLS TO AZUSA PACIFIC DESPITE BENCH PRODUCTION
Inside Kezar Pavilion on Dec. 19, Academy of Art women's basketball faced off against Azusa Pacific, one of two remaining teams carrying a Pacific West Conference record, and despite 27 points off the bench plus a season-high 15 steals, ART U dropped a 97-58 decision to the Cougars.

LOOKING AHEAD
When the Urban Knights finish their busy first week of the 2019, they will complete their six-game homestand with Fresno Pacific on Jan. 12 before heading out on the road.
