KNIGHT WATCH
Academy of Art currently sits third in the PacWest in rebounds per game (42.2) and fourth in scoring (71.0). Junior forward
Ines Medina comes off her best offensive game of the season (18 points versus CUI) and remains third in the conference at 9.4 rebounds per contest. Sophomore forward
Megan Jefferson joins Medina within the PacWest's top 10 in rebounding at 8.4 boards per game. With four steals in her previous two games, freshman guard
Chanel Stuart maintained her hold on the top steals per game average in the conference at 3.2 (22nd in NCAA Division II) while adding 14.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as well. Stuart ranks just ahead of junior guard
Brianna Cates among the PacWest's field goal percentage leaders, shooting 48.1 percent while Cates is scoring at a 47.1 percent clip and finds herself now fourth in the conference in scoring (18.2 points per game).
READY, SET, AR-GO
Like Academy of Art, Notre Dame de Namur remains in search of its first PacWest victory as the Argonauts are 1-5 overall with a win over Cal State Monterey Bay to their name. NDNU opened with losses to Sonoma State and Chico State then would have played more schools from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), but poor air quality cancelled their tournament. Since their win over CSUMB, the Argos have lost their first three conference games by an average of 32.0 points. The NDNU roster does not carry a double-digit scorer as Anaya Rodisha comes in averaging a team-best 9.8 points plus 5.5 rebounds per contest. The Urban Knights and Notre Dame de Namur have met 22 times previously with ART U leading 16-6.
WATCHING THE WILDCATS
Picked to finish fifth in the GNAC preseason coaches' poll, Central Washington has started strong in 2018-19 with a 6-1 record that has featured notable wins over CSUMB, Stanislaus State, and Cal State San Bernardino. The Wildcats split with their conference's two Alaska teams (falling to Alaska Anchorage and defeating Alaska) to set them up for an eight-day break from competition before the Urban Knights come to town. The leader of four double-digit scorers on the team to date is Alexis Pana who is putting up 13.7 points per game. There have been five previous meetings between Academy of Art and CWU with the Wildcats holding a slight 3-2 edge all-time.
FALCON FACTS
Seattle Pacific was selected to finish seventh in the GNAC preseason coaches' poll despite going third last year as runner-up to GNAC Tournament champion Montana State Billings and making the NCAA Tournament with a 15-5 conference record (23-8 overall). The Falcons are 3-4 to start this season, righting the ship with victories over Holy Names, Concordia Portland, and Western Oregon after four straight losses out of the gate. For a SPU squad that ranks first in the GNAC in three-point field goal percentage (40.8 percent and only team over 40 percent), Riley Evans paces the team offensively, putting up a GNAC-best 18.9 points per contest. This game will be the first time to date that Seattle Pacific and Academy of Art have met.
EAGLES RALLY IN FOURTH QUARTER, TOP ART U 83-59
Despite out-scoring Concordia in the second quarter and getting a season-high 18 points from junior forward
Ines Medina, Academy of Art women's basketball dropped their second Pacific West Conference game to the Concordia 83-59 on
Dec. 1 inside Kezar Pavilion.
LOOKING AHEAD
Two more PacWest games will complete the 2018 calendar year for ART U with Azusa Pacific (Dec. 19) and Hawaii Pacific (Dec. 31) coming to Kezar Pavilion over the final two weeks.
