VALLEJO, Calif. --Â An unprecedented win streak for Academy of Art women's soccer continued with a dominant 9-0 victory to sink the Keelhaulers of California Maritime on Saturday. In a game that saw the Urban Knights put up five goals, all from different Knights in the first half of play, ART U's nine scores marked the second-most in program history. Â Â
From the kick-off, Academy of Art put the pressure on, collecting five shots in the first 15 minutes of the game including three on goal. They were finally able to find the net in the 18th minute when sophomore midfielder
Sydney Cooke received a superb through ball from forward junior
Anissa Wilson and put it in the back right corner.
Once they scored there was no looking back. ART U exploded for two more goals in just an eight minute span. The first came off the foot of freshman midfielder
Brooklyn Morera for her second goal of the season. She was assisted by freshman forward
Baylie Christensen who drove down the left line and crossed in an exceptional ball.
The next goal was deja-vu, as Christensen drove up the same left line and crossed in a familiar ball. This time the finish came from Wilson. Wilson is now tied for most goals on the team with three and leads the team with eight points.
Junior forward
Jenny Wittor would claim the next score. Wittor received a remarkable through ball off the foot of junior midfielder
Casey Childers. She proceeded to blow past defenders, dribble right into the box, and belt a ball to the back of the net.
The last goal of the first half came from sophomore defender
Veronica Rodriguez. Rodriguez dribbled past a defender to clear space and rip a shot from 15 yards out to the bottom left corner, past a diving goalkeeper.
By the end of the half, the score was a shocking 5-0. The last time Academy of Art went into the half with as any goals was back on
Sept. 6, 2012 when they put up six on Mills College.
The second half of play started with an unexpected candidate scoring first. In the 48th minute of play, Morera crossed in a ball from the right corner. Sophomore goalkeeper
Lara Pflicke, who was playing forward at the time, made an incredible effort and was able to head the ball over the hands of the reaching g

oalie for her first goal of the season.
"Getting to play forward is always a fun thing to do," said Pflicke. "I am very happy I contributed to the team's success by scoring goals instead of saving them."
Before the game was over, Pflicke would put another ball in the net for her second goal. The goalkeeper is the first Urban Knight to accomplish a multi-goal game in the 2018 season.
Freshman midfielder
Reyna Valencia added yet another score to ART U's already sizable lead in the 68th minute. She received a ball from Wittor in the center box, turned, and slashed a ball to the top left shelf to put the score even more out of reach at 8-0.
The last goal was scored by junior defender
Mikayla Lopez in the 75th minute when she perfectly placed a shot from the top of the box for her first career goal.
When the final whistle blew the scoreboard read: ART U 9, Cal Maritime 0.
"Our offense is clicking very well right now," said head coach
Chris King. "Our competition level is about to take a jump and we are excited to rise to the challenge."
Academy of Art has now outscored their past two opponents by a colossal 14 goals to zero. With 20 goals in six games, ART U has surpassed their total from 2016 and 2017 combined. Â
The Urban Knights hope to carry the momentum and their winning ways into the conference season which kicks off with Fresno Pacific on Monday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
