Knights Outshoot Sea Lions in Second Half, Fall 3-0

SAN FRANCISCO -- In an eventful day where student-athletes from all sports came to support Academy of Art men's soccer, a pre-season PacWest favorite Point Loma overcame being outshot in the second half to defeat the Urban Knights 3-0.

"The guys, for the most part, were organized and hard to break down," said head coach Alex Yi. "We could have been a bit sharper in transition, but despite the result I'm proud of my players."

The Sea Lions went out to an early lead, when in the 11th minute Finn Tiedemann dribbled down the right line and planted a ball in the back of the net to the far post. ART U retaliated with their first shot on goal seven minutes later from junior midfielder Adrian Cekala, but the midfielders effort was rejected by the Point Loma goalkeeper.

The Sea Lions were back on the attack in the 37th minute when a Point Loma forward crushed a ball at sophomore goalkeeper Kris Jensson who made an absolutely brilliant save to rob PLNU of a goal. The Urban Knight's defenses led by senior defender Connor Henrichs held the remainder of the first period and they went into the half trailing just 1-0.

Despite outshooting the Sea Lions seven goals to six in the second half, the Sea Lions made the most of their opportunities to put two more goals on the board by the 60th minute. The shutout was nearly snapped in the 88th minute when senior defender Christian "Tate" Sprague lept into the air and put a firm header on target, but the Sea Lions goalkeeper made an impressive save and solidified the shutout.

After the 3-0 loss, Academy of Art's overall record stands at 1-6-1 and their PacWest at 0-3-1. UH Hilo is next for the Knights, Thursday Oct. 4th 10:30 a.m. at Paul Goode Field.
