Knights Topped by Concordia 2-0

SAN FRANCISCO – Academy of Art held Concordia scoreless for the first half, but the Eagles rallied for a pair of goals in the second period, forcing ART U to drop a 2-0 decision on Thursday morning at Paul Goode Field.

The Urban Knights had an excellent opportunity to score in the 25th when junior midfielder Alyssa Rasmussen blew by an Eagles defender allowing her to cross a ball into the penalty box. Sophomore forward Brooklyn Morera caught the cross with her left foot and drove a shot towards the goal, but a CUI defender blocked the ball.

The Eagles found the back of the net for the first time in the 48th minute from Marianna Maldonado. She dribbled around and found some space, then launched a shot from 24 yards out that hit the left post and ricocheted into the right side of the net. CUI's next goal in the 57th was crossed in and bounced back and forth between opposing players before Jadenn Carrillo bicycle-kicked a ball that hit the top crossbar and bounced past the goal line.

ART U had one last opportunity to score in the 61st on a chip shot that sailed just high by sophomore midfielder Avica Robings. CUI held on for the remainder of regulation and the Knights fell 2-0.

After the loss, Academy of Art moves to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference. ART U will be back in action next Thursday, Oct. 17 when they take on Biola in La Mirada, California.
