Munn, Sharp Add To Bright Future For ART U Women’s Hoops

SAN FRANCISCO -- Academy of Art women's basketball head coach Krystle Evans and her coaching staff have announced the official signing of two new additions, guard Alyssa Munn (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and guard Drew Sharp (Carson, Calif./Saint Anthony), who will make their respective collegiate debuts in the Urban Knights' 2020-21 campaign.

"Both Alyssa and Drew will leave their mark on this program," said Evans. "Don't be fooled by their demeanor or cherub smile, they are both silent assassins."

Alyssa Munn
A 5-5 point guard, Munn is about to start her fourth year on the Redondo Union High School varsity basketball team. A loaded resume has seen Munn named the Most Valuable Player of four tournaments, Bay League MVP, four First Team selections last year alone (including CIF Open Division), and the Division 2 CIF Player of the Year with area and state recognitions all while leading the Sea Hawks 75 wins (including a 28-3 league record) over three seasons and the program's first CIF D2 State Championship in 2018. Additionally, Munn has competed for the Cal Sparks for six years. As she begins in the Academy of Art School of Landscape Architecture next fall, Munn hopes to give back to the community by creating a more eco-friendly environment.

"Alyssa is a general, a winner, a warrior, and there's no doubt she's going to have an immediate impact on our team," said Evans. "She gets it on and off the floor. Most players of Alyssa's stature think they know it all, but she's all ears and no mouth. As a point guard, she has an uncanny way of getting the ball to her teammates; she has that 'it' factor that you're born with and an unmatched work ethic.  She really knows how to play the game and she's going to give you everything that she has every drill, scrimmage, and game. She's very attentive, the kind of player anyone would love to have on their team."

Drew Sharp
A 5-6 combo guard, Sharp is currently amid her fourth year at Saint Anthony High School. She has spent all four seasons on the Saints' varsity basketball team and two on the track & field team, earning accolades in both. With basketball, Sharp was a First Team and Press Telegram Dream Team honoree while securing two league championships with track & field. Additionally, she has competed with the Bay Cities Unleashed Track Club for 10 years and the Cal Sparks for three seasons. Sharp is slated to enter the Academy of Art School of Photography when she arrives on campus next fall.

"Drew will be one of the quickest players in our conference," said Evans. "She is a lot faster and quicker in the half-court than the average guard. She finds a way to work her way into different creases. Drew will have an immediate impact on the team as her playmaking ability is special. She can shoot the three, she plays tenacious defense, and is extremely unselfish. Most importantly, she's an amazing person."
