BELMONT, Calif. – Despite the most historic goal in ART U women's soccer history on which senior forward
Anissa Wilson broke the career goals record and junior midfielder
Sydney Cooke broke the career assists record, ART U dropped a 2-1 decision to Notre Dame de Namur on Tuesday evening at Koret Field.
"Definitely a hard fought battle as all our games against NDNU have been over the years," said
Chris King. "We created so many quality opportunities in the second half and that's really all you can ask for as a coach."
The goal that will go down in ART U women's soccer history was scored in the ninth minute and gave the Urban Knights a 1-0 lead. Cooke ripped a free kick from 27 yards out on target that the Argos goalkeeper blocked, but the ball deflected away and who else but Wilson was there to finish the play. It was the 19th goal of Wilson's career, which passed Hannah Emmett's record set in 2013, and brought her season point total to an astonishing 28. Her career point total moves up to 42, just one shy of tying the ART U career points record. Cooke recorded her fifth assist of the season and 10th of her career on the same play, to break
Jasmine Sharpe's record set in 2012. Cooke now has the second most points for ART U with 12 points on four goals and five assists.
"The goal we did score was one that we all as a team were pulling for," said King. "The sideline erupted when Nissy put it away. It is pretty serendipitous that Sydney would earn her career record setting assist at the same time that Nissy would break the career scoring record. Those two have been beyond special for us in their time here and obviously Nissy has received all the accolades, and they are well deserved, but Syd is the one that makes our offense go. Without her the opportunities are never created and she's always working to get someone into a great scoring opportunity."
NDNU got even in the 19th minute on a goal from Ellie Mujushi. She took a shot from almost 30 yards out that barely made its way over

the reach of junior goalkeeper
Lara Pflicke, who collected six saves on the day. The go-ahead goal came in the 67th minute, again off the foot of Mujushi, who received a pass in the box and hit a shot to the back of the net. The Urban Knights took four more shots in an attempt to equalize, but the Argonauts fended them off, forcing ART U to fall 2-1.
After conceeding their first loss in five matches, the Urban Knights will go into their three-match Hawaii road trip with an overall record of 7-5-3 and a conference record of 3-3-2. ART U will begin their island tour with Chaminade on Nov. 9.
