ART U Closes Out 2019 With a Victory

SAN FRANCISCO – The Academy of Art men's basketball team set season-bests in rebounds and assists in a 74-60 victory over Notre Dame de Namur inside Kezar Pavilion on Saturday.

"I thought that tonight was our best job all year moving the ball on offense," said Urban Knights head coach Scott Waterman. "We had 17 assists, I think that's the most we have had all year, and we really put an emphasis after Thursday's game of sharing the ball, moving it from side to side, getting a lot of guys touches and making the extra pass to get great shots."

ART U (4-7, 2-2 PacWest) pulled down a total of 50 rebounds and dished out 17 assists against NDNU (2-9, 1-4 PacWest) in the final game of the 2019 calendar year, as junior forward Josh Hill led the way by snatching a season-high 14 boards in his double-double effort to go with 12 points. The rebound total for the Urban Knights was the most in a single game since they grabbed 49 against Hawai'i Pacific on Jan. 30, 2010.

It was a 7-0 run to begin the game for the Urban Knights, having started with a 3-pointer from junior guard Stefan Milivojevic before getting buckets from Hill and junior guard Kai Tease. The lead would disappear as the Argonauts jumped ahead for the first time after a 3-pointer from Carl Snyder at the 12 minute and 56 second mark.

After trading leads, ART U went on a 13-2 run to take the lead for good and go up by double-digits at the break, 37-26. Tease and Milivojevic each scored 10 points in the half, and junior guard Joshua Bagley had three assists.

The second half started the way the first did. This time it was a 10-0 run for the Urban Knights over the first six minutes to push the lead to 21 points. Despite NDNU's best efforts and a barrage of threes in the latter stages of the game, the score would get no closer than 11 points as the Urban Knights cruised to their second PacWest victory of the year.

Milivojevic led the way with a game-high 20 points, Tease also finished with 17, and each had five rebounds. Along with Hill, junior forward Victor Ruiz de Carranza also secured double-digit rebounds with 12. It was also a team-high for Milivojevic in assists with five.

Three Argonauts scored in double-digits, led by Ajay Singh with 12 (5-for-10 from the floor). Snyder, Neil Green, and Lovevelle Shackleford nabbed four rebounds apiece.

The next contest for the Urban Knights will be in 2020, as they host Azusa Pacific at Kezar Pavilion in a PacWest Conference matchup on Jan. 2 at 3:30 p.m.
