HILO, Hawaii – The Urban Knights' first game of a three-part Hawaii roadtip entered them into a Pacific West Conference rematch with UH Hilo inside Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. Though Academy of Art women's basketball got the better of the Vulcans in San Francisco on Jan. 4, Hilo returned the favor with an 84-51 victory on Friday night.
Free throws primarily helped keep ART U with UH Hilo early on, but an 11-9 Vulcan advantage turned into 22-12 just prior to the end of the first quarter. Freshman guard
Chanel Stuart scored a layup in the final minute to make it single digits and, following a basket by sophomore forward
Megan Jefferson, the margin one minute into the second quarter.
At one point, sophomore forward
Lily Perkins was responsible for seven straight points scored by Academy of Art in the second, however, UH Hilo remained steady offensively and took a 35-23 margin into the halftime locker room.

Despite a back-and-forth stretch midway through the third, the Vulcans expanded their advantage to 23 points on multiple occasions before ending the frame up 63-38. Junior forward
Ines Medina rattled off seven straight points for the Knights in the fourth, but the final score would favor UH Hilo 84-51 in the end.
Academy of Art moves to 3-16 overall this season and 2-14 in conference play with Friday's result. In her second-highest scoring effort of the season, Perkins posted 25 points along with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. The tandem of Medina and Stuart each had 10 points apiece and combined to grab 14 rebounds.
UH Hilo gets its overall record to 7-12 on the year and 4-11 on the PacWest side. Leading five Vulcans scoring in double figures, Allie Navarette put in 32 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field and added 12 rebounds.
The second stop on ART U's Hawaiian roadtrip will be this Sunday, Feb. 10 in Honolulu with the Urban Knights facing Hawaii Pacific at Moanalua High School at 1 p.m. HT (3 p.m. PT).
