2019 All-PacWest Team
IRVINE, Calif. – The 2019 season has ended yet records continue to fall. After breaking almost every team offensive record and multiple individual records, Academy of Art baseball had four Urban Knights named to the All-PacWest team, the most in program history.
Thomas Delgadillo -- All-PacWest First Team
In his first season as an Urban Knight junior outfielder
Thomas Delgadillo demolished the ART U single season hits record and led the PacWest in batting average. Delgadillo's incredible .422 average led the PacWest by over .023 points and broke the ART U single season batting average by a whopping .071 points. On
April 20th, with nine games to play, Delgadillo connected for his 60th knock of the season to break Joseph Marchini's record set in 2015. Delgadillo went on to collect a total of 73 hits, breaking the previous record by 14 and solidifying his record as one of the most set in stone in the ART U books. This is Delgadillo's first All-PacWest award.
Elijah Smith – All-PacWest Second Team
Senior infielder
Elijah Smith's second straight All-PacWest honor comes after he hit .363, led the PacWest in doubles (17) and triples (4), broke the single season ART U doubles record, and the career ART U triples record (11). Smith led the team in slugging percentage (.538), was second in runs batted in (30), third in runs scored (29), and had an OPS of .943.
Zak May – All-PacWest Third Team
Senior catcher
Zak May was a production machine this season. May led the team in home runs (6) and runs batted in (35). His six home runs tied the single season home runs record and his 35 RBI broke the record by eight. May broke the record with a dazzling performance in the final game of the series against Azusa Pacific, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and five runs batted in on the
record breaking day. The five runs batted in and two home runs both tied the single game record. This is May's first All-PacWest award.
Gonzo Rios – All-PacWest Third Team
Senior pitcher
Gonzo Rios was the Urban Knights "go-to" pitcher out of the bullpen this season. Rios was used in high stress situations, while also being called upon as a starter on three occasions. Rios had an earned run average of 3.94 to go with his team leading and single season record tying six wins. Rios also led the team in strikeouts (55) and led the PacWest in batting average against at .218.
