Wilson Breaks Single Season Goals Record in 2-0 Win

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Academy of Art women's soccer has a new single-season goals leader, senior forward Anissa Wilson. With her eighth goal of the season, Wilson broke both the single-season goals and points record in ART U's 2-0 victory over William Jessup, Wednesday afternoon at Jessup Field.

"The record breaking goal for Anissa today was definitely an exciting one for us," said head coach Chris King. "Being on the road we were having trouble finding our rhythm so Anissa finding the back of the net settled us down and helped us to find a good rhythm and play some good soccer. On a more personal note you couldn't pick a better person to break a record like that. Anissa never wants to stop playing soccer. The way she enjoys the game and works to get better everyday, it's not surprising at all that she broke the record one third of the way through the season. We have a special group of people on this team and with someone like her leading us everyday, everyone shows up to work hard, have fun, and enjoy soccer."

Only six matches into the 2019 season, Wilson has accumulated 17 points on eight goals and one assist to overtake Beth Baker's record set in 2012.

After Wilson kicked off the scoring with her record breaking goal, sophomore forward Brooklyn Morera scored in the 30th, giving ART U a 2-0 lead. The score makes Morera's third consecutive match with a goal and moves her into second in points for both ART U and the PacWest.

"Offensively Anissa and Brooklyn have continued to cause issues for opponents defenses and they're typically off attacks created from Sydney Cooke's hard work and creativity in the midfield," said King.

Junior goalkeeper Lara Pflicke registered her second shutout of the year with another scoreless 90 minutes in goal and one save. The shutout performance drops her goal against average to a meager 0.99.

"We've defended really well throughout our non conference schedule," said King. "When we defend like we did today and take care of the ball in the defensive third we're always capable of posting a shutout. Particularly with how good Lara and our two center-backs, Britney Flint and Katie Williams, have been."

After the 2-0 win over the Warriors, Academy of Art improves to 4-1-1 on the year. The Urban Knights will have over a week without a match before they take on Notre Dame de Namur in their final non-conference contest on Sept. 27 at Paul Goode Field starting at noon.

"As far as looking forward to PacWest play, I think our non-conference schedule has prepared us for what our conference has to offer," said King. "We've taken some big strides forward over the past year and we're looking forward to continuing to get better and better and post some results against PacWest opponents."
