HONOLULU – The Academy of Art men's basketball team faced an uphill battle when it clashed with Chaminade on Monday, as the Silverswords shot 60 percent in the first half to help cruise to a 90-75 Pacific West conference victory.
Chaminade (12-7, 10-4 PacWest) got the ball rolling with a 7-0 run to start the game, though the Urban Knights (5-14, 3-9 PacWest) would briefly take the lead after battling back. The cushion would be short lived, as a dominant 24-7 stretch by CUH would put the Silverswords ahead for good. The lead was partially built on defense, as the Silverswords came up with 10 steals in the first half.
It was ART U who came out hot in the second half, as a 15-0 run cut the deficit all the way down to single-digits at 55-46. The Urban Knights would go on to knock down 51.6 percent of their shots from the floor in frame two, but ultimately found themselves too far behind to complete the comeback.
Junior forward
Josh Hill recorded his fourth double-double of the season, as he tied a season-best 19 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field to go along with 10 rebounds. It was his first double-double
since taking on Point Loma on Jan. 13 in which he tallied 19 points and 11 boards. Junior guard
Stefan Milivojevic also ended up with 19 points thanks in part to four buckets from beyond the arc.
It was a game-high 32 points for Tyler Cartaino of Chaminade, as he was 14-for-20 from the floor in 31 minutes. Andre Arissol closed out the evening with 16 points, while Kevin Kremer pulled down nine rebounds.
The Urban Knights will continue their Hawai'i trip on Wednesday when they take on Hawai'i Pacific at 6:30 p.m. HST.
