TURLOCK, Calif. – In its second road match of the year, Academy of Art women's tennis took care of business against Stanislaus State, defeating the Warriors 6-1 via the doubles point and five singles victories on Saturday.
The afternoon began with dominant play at the first and third doubles positions as senior
Mariacristina Andrisani and sophomore
Sofia Ragona remained undefeated with a 6-0 win over Ashley Isaac and Kayla Nguyen. The third spot featured a 6-3 victory for freshmen
Maria Vittoria Casucci and
Julia Ortega versus Kate Bolton and Karrigan Cook.
With the doubles point in hand, Ortega and Ragona were the first to finish straight sets singles wins, taking down Cook 6-0, 6-2 and Megan Hagerty 6-3, 6-1 respectively. Though the Warriors came back with a win in the fifth position, Casucci's 6-2, 6-2 result over Nguyen at three served as the clincher before freshman
Aitana Comas Adam topped Tay Cazarin 6-1, 6-4 at four and Andrisani outlasted Isaac 0-6, 6-4, 10-4 in the first spot.
Improving to 4-1 on the year, Academy of Art has posted a 5.5 winning margin in its four victories. Stanislaus State drops to 2-3 to start the season.
The Urban Knights next return home to host Concordia (Calif.) on Wednesday, Mar. 4 at 9 a.m.
