ART U Honors Seniors, Sees New Record Set On Thursday

SAN FRANCISCO – The Academy of Art men's basketball team had five players reach in double-figures against Point Loma on Thursday, but it wasn't enough to take down the No. 2 team in the Pacific West Conference on senior night as the final ended 88-73.

It was the final home contest for seniors Victor Ruiz de Carranza and Nemanja Kovacevic, who were honored with a ceremony before the game for their contributions to the Urban Knights (11-17, 9-12 PacWest). However, it was the Sea Lions (21-6, 17-4 PacWest) that would get off to the quick start, scoring the first six points of the game. The lead lasted just over halfway through the first frame before a 3-pointer from junior Stefan Milivojevic would tie the game at 20-20. Milivojevic would go on to finish with 10 points, setting a new record for career scoring at ART U with 877, breaking Ameer Shamsud-din's (2011-13) old mark by just one point.

The two teams would trade buckets until a 3-pointer from Ruiz de Carranza closed out the first half with the score deadlocked at 39, as both teams hit on over half of their looks from the field. The second half began with a layup from forward Josh Hill, as the game would much like the end of the first frame. Hill would go on to finish with a team-high 19 points, and fell one rebound short of a double-double with nine boards. With the game tied at 45-45, a nine-point run would give PLNU a lead that they would build on until the game ended, as the Sea Lions bumped up their shooting percentage to 56.7 percent in the second half and post a 88-73 victory.

Ruiz de Carranza would end with 14 points and six rebounds while junior guard Joshua Bagley totaled 11 points to go along with five assists. Also notching five assists was Milivojevic, and junior guard Dante Williams finished with 13 points and four rebounds.

Kaden Anderson scored a game-high 27 points for the Sea Lions, with three others also reaching double-digits including Brock Mackenzie with 18. Josh Caston tallied seven assists, while Ben Okhotin produced 17 points and six rebounds.

Despite the loss, the Urban Knights remain tied for sixth place in the PacWest as the race for the postseason races toward its end. That will be on Saturday when ART U travels to Belmont, Calif. to face Notre Dame de Namur.
