ART U Athletics Suspends 2020 Competition Indefinitely

SAN FRANCISCO -- Following its institutional shift to an online course format and working in conjunction with the Pacific West Conference, Academy of Art University has announced its athletics events have been suspended indefinitely at least through March 30 due to growing concerns relating to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

"The health and mental wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff remains paramount so we are doing everything we can to keep them safe," said Director of Athletics Brad Jones. "We are also emphasizing that our coaches help monitor academic success to support our student-athletes through this shift to having virtual classes."

The NCAA's Mar. 12 announcement regarding the cancellation of all winter and spring championships will immediately affect the Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships set to take place Mar. 13-14 in Birmingham, Alabama. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.

As the situation continues to be closely monitored and reassessments are made later this month, updates will be provided at www.artuathletics.com.
