IRVINE, Calif. – Academy of Art women's soccer's leader in both shots and shots on goal, senior forward
Brooklyn Morera, once again paced ART U in both categories, but despite her best efforts Concordia would walk away with a 2-0 Pacific Conference win on Saturday thanks to a pair of goals in the first 22 minutes.
Bursting out of the gate was the Eagles (4-4-3, 3-1-1 PacWest), as Sophia Munoz found the back of the net in the ninth minute thanks to a through ball on the counterattack from Jadenn Carrillo, putting Munoz right in the box as she scored to the far side. Before the Urban Knights (2-7-2, 1-5-0 PacWest) could respond, Munoz struck for the second time in the 22nd minute when she collected a ball from teammate Riley Walkington as she danced around defenders and labeled a shot to the top right portion of the net, with a second assist going to Olivia Ocampo.
ART U would then have their best stretch of the match, controlling the play through the end of the first frame with a number of solid chances. Among them were a shot from freshman midfielder
Zineb Ighirri that sailed just over the top of the net, and Morera's second shot on goal that was set up by a through ball from junior midfielder
Baylie Christensen, which was ultimately saved by Eagles goalkeeper Hailey Asato. Junior defender
Avica Robings and junior midfielder
Reyna Valencia each chipped in a shot as well, but neither made their way on goal.
Concordia's defense was stifling in the second frame as they limited ART U to just two shots, as the Eagles would go on to hold the edge in shots 22-7. Urban Knights senior goalkeeper
Jordyn Wight posted six saves by the end of the match, five of which came in the second frame.
The next chance to rebound for ART U will come on Monday, as they travel through Southern California to take on Azusa Pacific at 5 p.m.
