Inouye, Sanchez Collect First PacWest Weekly Awards

PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Mar. 8)

IRVINE, Calif. – Playing major roles on both the offensive and defensive sides of Academy of Art baseball's dominant Mar. 6 sweep of Fresno Pacific, sophomore shortstop Adam Inouye and graduate student pitcher Matthew Sanchez were named Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively. The awards are for games played from Mar. 1-7.

Inouye delivered seven hits in his first 10 at-bats for ART U, going 3-for-6 with a two-run single in game one before a perfect 4-for-4 effort in the day's finale. He was responsible for one run scored in the first contest and added three more in the second to tie for the team lead when the dust had settled on the team's impressive 21 runs scored in the first two contests.

In his first start of 2021, Sanchez was practically unhittable. He shut out the Sunbirds over an 8.0 innings pitched to match his career-high, allowing just three hits and four walks with four strikeouts. He needed 93 pitches to record his first win of the season.

This is the first PacWest weekly honor for Inouye and Sanchez in their respective ART U careers.
