Basketball Alumni Stefan Milivojevic Inks Pro Contract

SAN FRANCISCO – Having recently closed out a career as perhaps the greatest scorer to ever don an Urban Knights uniform, Academy of Art men's basketball alumni Stefan Milivojevic has signed with MBK Baník Handlová of the Slovak Basketball League, the highest level of basketball in Slovakia.

Stefan Milivojevic - MBK Handlova"I signed my first professional contract and I am very happy that I will get the chance to prove myself in European basketball, and show that I am capable of playing high-level basketball," Milivojevic said.

After wearing the red and black of the Knights, Milivojevic will swap those colors for the green and white of Handlová, a squad that was founded in 1941 but originally went under the name of Baník Handlová until 2015. A member of the top-tier SBK starting when the league founded in 1993, Handlová is still seeking its first SBK Championship despite a pair of back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2004-05 and 2005-06. The shooting of Milivojevic will be needed, as Handlová finished at the bottom of the SBK table last season with a record of 11-25, but did have point guard Goran Bulatovic named to the SBK Third Team.

The only player in Academy of Art men's basketball history to go over the century mark in points and one of few to be a part of back-to-back Pacific West Conference Tournament appearing teams, Milivojevic totaled 1,112 points over four seasons while averaging 11.8 points per game, the seventh-best mark in ART U history. Among Milivojevic's specialties was the three-point ball, as he ranks first in 3-point field goals made (175) and 3-point percentage (43.3 percent), while also having made the most field goals (371) in program history. Not only does he hold career records, but Milivojevic set the ART U record for most points in a single season (515) during the 2019-20 campaign, averaging 17.2 points per game (tied for fourth-most) while downing a record 78 3-pointers in 30 games. A lifetime Urban Knight, Milivojevic competed in 94 games over the course of his career, putting him in seventh place for most ART U games played while setting the new Urban Knights record for minutes played with a total of 2,496.

"The ART U basketball family is incredibly excited for Stefan's professional career to begin," said Urban Knights Head Coach Scott Waterman. "Over the last four years, he improved greatly and has earned this opportunity. As the leading scorer in the history of the school, Stefan has left a lasting legacy on the program. We look forward to following him from across the Atlantic."

Milivojevic joins former teammates and recent ART U alumni Victor Ruiz de Carranza (Albacete; Spain) and Tim Graham (Ginasio; Portugal) in signing professional contracts upon the end of their collegiate careers.
