ART U Baseball 2022 Recruiting Class: Part Two

SAN FRANCISCO – Continuing its preparation to chase down a second consecutive postseason appearance after winning the Pacific West Conference Northern California pod last season, Academy of Art baseball and Head Coach Dan McDermott have announced the second wave of its 2022 recruiting class. Joining ART U baseball will be right-handed pitcher/first baseman Joseph Anderson (El Dorado, Calif./Bradshaw Christian High School), catcher/third baseman Robbie Brue (Hayward, Calif./Contra Costa College), and infielder Emil Jellinek (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley High School).

"Both Joseph Anderson and Emil Jellinek are true freshmen, and they are extremely invested in the academic and athletic balance at Academy of Art University," McDermott said. "Robbie Brue adds great value to the program."

Joseph AndersonAs Coach McDemott mentioned, Joseph Anderson enters ART U after having most recently graduated from Bradshaw Christian High School in 2021 where he was a dual-sport athlete, playing varsity baseball for four seasons while playing varsity soccer for three years. He excelled on the mound while in high school, as the right-hander was named an All-League Pitcher in 2021, and has additionally played for and trained with Show California Baseball in 2020-21. Anderson lists his favorite sports moment as the time he threw a no-hitter while striking out 10 batters in the same game, while his favorite non-sport hobbies are drawing and playing board games. Anderson is currently enrolled in the School of Animation & Visual Effects with the ultimate career goal of becoming an animator.

"Joseph is a wiry right-handed pitcher who has tremendous potential," McDermott said. "He knows how to pitch and is a true competitor. With physical development and strength training, he will become an outstanding contributor to this program."

Robert BrueRobbie Brue comes to Academy of Art as a junior athletically after spending the previous two seasons with Contra Costa College. Prior to college, the utility catcher/third baseman graduated from Castro Valley High School where he played baseball. The Hayward native's high school career was highlighted by three All-Tournament Team selections as well as a Perfect Game Preseason All-American Honorable Mention out of the California Region in 2017. Brue is enrolled in the School of Communications & Media Technologies at ART U.

"Robbie came to us from Contra Costa College where he played for Coach Brian Guinn," McDermott said. "Coach Brian started our program at ART U and knows the type of student-athlete we need to achieve success. In Robbie, the program has landed a versatile player who can catch, play third and roam the outfield. I told Robbie that I never want him to be sitting on the bench next to me. He is determined to play every inning and will do so if he keeps playing the game hard, and pays attention to detail."

Emil JellinekThe second of two true freshmen to be announced in the second wave of the 2022 recruiting class is Emil Jellinek, a Bay Area native who graduated from Berkeley High School in 2021 where he played varsity baseball for four seasons. Additionally, the infielder has also played with the NorCal Baseball Club out of Pleasanton, Calif., and lists his favorite professional sports team as the Oakland Athletics. Oftentimes going by the nickname "Peanut," Jellinek earned All-Tournament Team honors in 2016 and highlighted his senior year with eight walks, seven runs batted in, seven runs scored, and four doubles in 16 games played. Jellinek has enrolled in the School of Advertising at Academy of Art.

"Emil is the sleeper of this class," McDermott said. "He will play both second and third base for the Urban Knights. Emil can flat out hit. He is a student of the game and a pleasure to coach. He is another guy who will be a core player for us for years to come."
