2022 Hillsdale Wide-Track Classic Results
HILLSDALE, Mich. – Inside Margot V. Biermann Center once again for Saturday's Hillsdale Wide-Track Classic, Academy of Art track & field had combinations of distance runners and sprinters finish first in their respective events with the women's distance medley relay debuting inside the country's top five with a NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals provisional qualification.
Combining their efforts in the distance medley relay were
Delanie Dykes,
Ombretta Picciolie Minkue Meye,
Lina Hanich, and
Natalia Novak as ART U finished the race by more than a full 30 seconds at 11:55.40. The team's first time competing in the event in 2022 resulted in not only the fourth-best time in program history, but also the fourth-fastest time in NCAA DII this season.
"I thought today was a good start for the women's DMR," said Assistant Coach
Bruce Jackson. "We'll look to build upon today throughout the remainder of the season."
Two of those relay members, Novak and Dykes, were also in action individually in the 3000m. The pair went first and second overall out of the 20 total runners with Novak coming across at 9:53.35 for her second Nationals provisional in as many tries and Dykes clocking in at 10:23.93.
Following up their dominant performances in the 60m dash yesterday,
Selena Arjona-Alcazar and Minkue Meye were at it again Saturday, taking the top two spots in both the event prelims and final. Arjona-Alcazar started with a 7.60 to qualify then went 7.61 in the final while Minkue Meye trimmed 0.10 off her 7.78 prelim time with a 7.66 to close the day.
On the men's side,
Ajani Ince and
Shareez Hamm both contested the 60m final and both improved their marks. Ince started at 7.07 and dropped to 7.05 while began at 7.22 and finished with a 7.18. Hamm was also untouched in the 60m hurdles, taking first in both the prelims and final with identical 8.43 times.
Out of 12 competitors, a second-place result came for
Audrey Rosencrans in the mile at 5:24.26.
Academy of Art will return to Michigan on Feb. 4 for the Grand Valley State Snowdown Showdown in Allendale.
