SAN FRANCISCO – Freshman goalkeeper
Alicia Calderon was called upon often for Academy of Art women's soccer during its match with Azuza Pacific on Saturday, making a total of 15 saves on the day to set a new season best. Unfortunately it was not enough for ART U, as APU scored five times in the first half before capturing a 6-0 Pacific West Conference victory.
The offense for the Eagles (5-2-3, 2-0-1 PacWest) was relentless while battling the Urban Knights (0-12-0, 0-5-0 PacWest), ending the match with a total of 43 shots leading to the six goals. Nora Oldmark was the only player to score multiple goals for APU, netting a brace in the first half, while Evelina Von Euler tallied multiple points with a goal and an assist.
Not only were the 15 stops a new personal record for Calderon, they rank
second-most in ART UÂ single-game history, trailing only the 19 by Rachael Rempe against
Notre Dame de Namur on Oct. 26, 2012. Academy of Art was able to generate one shot coming in the second half, but the chance from the boot of freshman forward
Danielle Medellin could not find its way on goal.Â
The homestand continues for the Urban Knights when they return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 12 to face Lincoln University in non-conference action at noon.
