SAN FRANCISCO – On a day all about five Academy of Art women's soccer seniors, including a pregame ceremony prior to ART U's match against Concordia, the seniors provided the majority of the offense for the Urban Knights with eight combined shots. Unfortunately, it was not enough to keep pace with the quick-scoring Eagles offense, as CUI captured the Pacific West Conference season finale by a final of 7-0 on Saturday.Â
Offense was the theme of the afternoon for the Eagles (12-4-2, 7-2-1), led by a hat trick from Jadenn Carrillo who started the game's scoring in the 13th minute. While Concordia launched 18 shots in the first half, Urban Knights' (1-17-0, 0-10-0 PacWest) freshman goalkeeper
Alicia Calderon was there nearly every step of the way, producing five saves in the first half while trying to keep ART U close. Despite five first half shots from the Knights, two from senior defender
Avica Robings, CUI took a 2-0 edge into break.
Though it took well into the second half, Concordia added four goals in the 71st minute or later as insurance, with the first two completing the hat trick for Carrillo. Academy of Art continued to push forward in efforts to sustain offense, generating five scoring opportunities in the final 45 minutes, but none could find the net. Three of those shots made it on target in the second half, coming in the form of one apiece from senior midfielder
Reyna Valencia, senior defender
Britney Flint, and senior midfielder
Baylie Christensen.Â
Saturday's match marked the second consecutive time that Calderon made nine saves, as she ends the season with a total of 138 which is sixth-most in a single season in PacWest history. Meanwhile, Valencia took the most shots with three (one on target), but Robings and Christensen also chipped in a pair of shots apiece.Â
Prior to the match with Concordia, ART U honored the contributions of five Urban Knights seniors with a pregame ceremony who have spent their entire career with ART U in defenderÂ
Avica Robings, midfielderÂ
Reyna Valencia, defenderÂ
Britney Flint, forwardÂ
Baylie Christensen, and forwardÂ
Brooklyn Morera. Each of these five Urban Knights have recorded nearly 4,000 minutes of game action, and leave in a minumum of three Urban Knights career top-10 lists.Â
