HONOLULU – Five saves in the first half from Academy of Art women's soccer freshman goalkeeper
Alicia Calderon forced the match into halftime locked in a scoreless tie, but a succession of three quick Chaminade goals were the deciding factor in a 3-0 CUH win in Pacific West Conference play on Wednesday.
Stepping up for the Urban Knights in the first frame was Calderon, as her five stops came on a total of 11 first-half shots faced. Redshirt sophomore forward
Hannah Moore was able to generate an attempt for ART U the early going, but the attempt could not find a target.Â
Coming out of the break, the offense for the Silverswords started to click as they notched three goals in just two minutes, with a brace for Gracie Bowers happening in the 53rd minute. The first from Bowers came 25 feet out straight in front of the box, while her second of the minute was scored from just inside the box after she receives a header pass from Ruby Burroughs. Moments later in the 55th, Burroughs struck for a goal of her own when she curled in a free kick from just outside the box.
Despite the three goals allowed, Calderon made another five stops in the second frame for a total of 10, the second time this year she has produced double-digit saves (one short of her season-high). Also taking a shot for Academy of Art was senior defender
Avica Robings, but, like Moore, her chance also missed the target.Â
One match remains on the Hawaiian road trip for ART U, as the Urban Knights conclude the three-match swing when they battle with the Vulcans on Saturday beginning at 12:30 p.m. HT (3:30 p.m. PT).
