Women's Soccer Falls In Tough Battle To APU

AZUSA Calif. – A tough match for the Urban Knights, Monday's game between Academy of Art women's soccer and Azusa Pacific went in the Cougars' favor after the home team tallied seven goals at Cougar Soccer Complex with a final score of 7-0.

Azusa Pacific, now 5-4-2 and 2-1 in conference, took the lead early against the Knights, who now dropped to 1-10-0 and 0-5-0 in conference, as they scored in the 17th minute and ART U never found an answer. Aubrey Dunaway of APU would come out of the match scoring the most points on either side, earning four with her two goals scored.

Sophomore forward Danielle Medellin and redshirt junior defender Katie Williams both got shots off that were on target in the second half, but the Cougars' goalkeepers who split time ended up saving both. Williams also finished the match with another full 90 minutes played, making it 11-straight with 990 minutes total thus far on the year.

The Knights brought out freshman goalkeeper Kayla Hampton in goal for the match, and she recorded eight saves on 25 shots faced, still ranking herself near the top of the standings among goalkeepers in the Pacific West Conference standings in saves per game with 6.86 (2nd).

ART U will come back home to play their Senior Day match this Saturday, Oct. 14 with a kickoff set for 2:30 p.m. at CCSF Soccer Field.
