Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Balanced Attack Not Enough For Academy of Art In Sonoma

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Battling back from a 20-point halftime deficit, Academy of Art women's basketball more than doubled Sonoma State's point total in the third quarter, but nearly every Urban Knight scoring and assisting at least one basket in the game could not overcome a late run by the Seawolves to secure their 80-51 victory inside The Wolves' Den on Wednesday.

A 3-pointer by freshman guard Lucia Revenga began the afternoon for ART U, but an 11-0 run put the Seawolves in front and they would push their advantage to 23-8 by the end of the first quarter. Academy of Art shortened the gap to 10 points, scoring seven of the game's next nine points including five from junior forward Yasmine Sifaoui yet long-range success once again had SSU with a 34-15 margin. After trading baskets for the remainder of the half, baskets from the paint by sophomore guard Alba Rovira Ayuso and Revenga had the difference at 46-26 going to the break.

Both Revenga and freshman guard Anna Fornells sparked a 7-2 burst out of halftime and soon nine unanswered points closed the third quarter as Ojide's consecutive layups made it just an 11-point affair to start the fourth frame.

Triples by freshman guard Maddie Morrow and Revenga brought the Knights to within 10 on multiple occasions through the first three minutes of the final quarter, however, a 16-0 response from Sonoma State fended off the comeback toward the 80-51 final.

ART U moves to 1-4 overall this season despite having all but two Knights with at least two points and one assist in the contest. Revenga's 10 points and three steals led the way while junior forward/center Christy Ojide added nine points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Sifaoui posted nine points, seven rebounds, and two blocks in 17 minutes off the bench, Rovira Ayuso finished with eight points and six rebounds, and graduate student guard Emilia Dougherty provided five assists.

The 4-1 Seawolves had five players score in double figures with Sienna Cherwinski's 16 points and six assists atop the list.

"We were unable to get off to our usual good start and found ourselves having to chase the game," said Head Coach Jesse Clark. "Credit to Sonoma State for taking advantage, and not allowing us to get completely back into the game after we made a charge in the third. We will regroup and be prepared to improve this weekend."

The Urban Knights will conclude non-conference play with a trip to Chico State this Saturday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m.
