Latrell Williams Opens PacWest Play As Player of the Week

PacWest Weekly Awards (Dec. 11)

IRVINE, Calif. -- Senior forward Latrell Williams of Academy of Art men's basketball has been named Player of the Week by the Pacific West Conference for the week of Dec. 4 - Dec. 10 for his performances against Azusa Pacific on Dec. 7 and Chaminade on Dec. 10.

On the week, Williams scored 23 points in both games, which included 9.0 rebounds per contest while averaging 3.0 steals and 1.5 blocks. The Gary, Ind. native shot 19-for-32 (.594) in the two games while knocking down 6-for-8 from the line against the Silverswords. Williams led the PacWest Team of the Week to a 2-0 start in conference play.

Williams has made his mark on the current PacWest individual statistical leaders, as he ranks in the top-10 in six different categories. In terms of scoring, the senior puts up 15.8 points per game (sixth) and shoots .464 from the field (sixth). While he brings in 8.3 rebounds a game (second), Williams is also a key defensive unit for the Urban Knights, as he stands with 2.3 steals per game (tied-second) and ranks among leaders in blocks (10th).

This award is the second Player of the Week award for an Urban Knight of ART U men's basketball this season (Jamal Fuller on Nov. 27) and third player in three straight weeks this season for the Knights to receive a PacWest weekly award (Treylon Payne as Defender of the Week on Dec. 4) . Williams is the ninth Urban Knight all time to be named the PacWest Player of the Week.
