CHALLENGING THE COUGARS
Having been picked to finish first in the PacWest Coaches Preseason Poll and nationally ranked to open the year, Azusa Pacific began the season 4-1 with victories over CSU Pueblo, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State San Marcos, and Seattle Pacific. Losses to Western Washington and Cal State LA would follow, but the Cougars rebounded by topping Cal Poly Humboldt and Western Oregon in late November. First in the PacWest in assists per game (16.7) and second in both assist-to-turnover ratio (+1.2), turnover margin (+4.0), and steals per game (9.2), APU carries the current conference scoring leader in Kelly Heimburger (16.2 points per game) as well as the PacWest leader in both assists per game (4.7) and assist-to-turnover ratio (+2.3) in Paige Uyehara. Thursday will be the 18th meeting of Academy of Art and Azusa Pacific with the Cougars in front 14-3 historically.
